What actually happens on a Tuesday

There's no line-up and no stage. Instruments come out around six, someone starts, and the evening builds from there — guitars, percussion, whoever brought what, whoever feels like singing. The sun sets over the Atlantic behind the players, the rooftop fills, and it runs until late.

Some Tuesdays it's four people and an acoustic guitar. Others it's a full band's worth of travelling musicians who happened to land in the same village in the same week. That unpredictability is the format working as intended, not a flaw in it.

All instruments, all voices, all levels

That's the actual rule, and it's meant literally:

Play something? Bring it, or use what's on the roof. Nobody auditions.
Sing? There's a mic.
Neither? Come anyway. Listening is a completely respectable way to spend a Tuesday — most of the room does exactly that.

The mix is what makes it work: guests staying at the hostel, people from the village, and musicians passing through this coast. It's the fastest way we know for a solo traveller to stop being a solo traveller.

Why a ticket at all? It goes straight back into the sound system, the instruments and the community music projects we want to keep running. You can register for a spot here — guests and visitors use the same form.

Live music on this coast, honestly

Tamraght is a dry village: no bars, no clubs. Evenings here are cafés, rooftops and — on Tuesdays — this. If you want a bar scene, Taghazout is ten minutes north and has the DJ nights and beachfront bars. What it doesn't have, as far as we know, is a weekly open jam that anyone can walk into.

There's also older music in this region than anything we do: the Souss has a living Amazigh tradition — Ahwash, communal song and dance that predates every surfboard on this coast by centuries. Our Tuesday isn't that, and doesn't pretend to be. It's just the modern, mongrel version: whoever is in the village, playing together.

And if Tuesday happens to be your day here anyway, the morning market in the upper village runs the same day. Market in the morning, music in the evening — the village's two busiest hours, twelve apart.

Beyond the jam: making music here

The jam is the free, open, weekly end of what we do with music. The other end is deliberate: we design artist residencies anywhere in Morocco for musicians, bands, producers and creative teams — accommodation, recording support, quiet places to write, and collaboration with Moroccan artists.

Between those two extremes there's a lot of room, and most of the good stuff at Azul Berg has started with someone picking up a guitar on the roof.
